Voici à quoi ressemblera Spawn: Book of the Dead. Du moins, ce à quoi ressemblera le livre, l’objet, car il s’agit ici d’un exemple de l’imprimeur. Ca ressemble fort au the Art of Greg Capullo hardcover. Il ne reste plus qu’à remplir ces pages blanches d’encre, messieurs…

Vous le savez, il n’y a plus à l’heure actuelle de séries spin-offs à la série maire Spawn. Eh bien cela ne veut pas dire que TMP n’a pas en projet de nouveaux spin-offs dans le futur… Qui vivra verra…

TMP proposera le spin-off HellSpawn en TPB. Cela pourrait débarquer l’année prochaine.
Le TPB Spawn Godslayer a du retard mais est toujours prévu.

Non, j'ai fait comme toi ... je tente de résister jusqu'à la version papier.
Lire juste quelques cases de temps en temps était trop frustrant ...
Tout lire sur l'ordi était un peu trop fastidieux ... et décidemment, j'aime trop le contact avec le papier ... donc j'attends la V.O. avec impatience, puis, je me ferai la V.F.

Whilce Portacio assure que Violator aura une place importante en tant que personnage dans les nouveaux épisodes de Spawn.

Jin Han, le coloriste de Spawn à partir du #185, qualifie la nouvelle approche artistique pour le moment top secrète, de : rétro-moderne.

Todd McFarlane en interview vidéo, ça fait toujours plaisir. Spawn: the Book of the Dead, voici l’illustration d’Ashley Wood qui servira de couverture à l’ouvrage. Pour rappel, les textes seront de David Hine, et les peintures de Ashley Wood & Geirrod Van Dyke. Chaque exemplaire sera signé de la main de Todd McFarlane. Sorti en novembre prochain.


Spawn #180 se classe 121ième (aïe!) des estimations de vente de comics au mois de juillet aux States, avec 19183 exemplaires vendus.

Voici 6 ans que Marvel le prépare. Marvels: Eye of the camera, suite du fameux Marvels de Kurt Busiek & Alex Ross sorti il y a 14 ans, est toujours l’œuvre de Kurt Busiek et de… Ben oui, parce que sinon qu’est-ce que cette info viendrait faire ici ? Eh bien l’illustrateur de cette mini-série en 6 parties est… Jay Anacleto (the Magic of Aria, Aria/Angela, Spawn Godslayer). Le premier épisode est prévu pour décembre 2008.

Le célèbre scénariste Mark Millar (the Authority, Jenny Sparks, Superman: Red Son, Chosen, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimates, Ultimate War, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Trouble, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Civil War, Kick-Ass, 1985, Wanted, War Heroes…) et l’illustrateur Ashley Wood (Spawn: Blood and Shadows, Spawn: Blood and Salvation, HellSpawn…) ont eu jadis un projet commun de série chez Image, intitulée Run. Un projet hélas avorté.

Strange Embrace TPB hardcover, 34.99 $, de David Hine, est sorti aujourd’hui aux USA.

-> Le Clown vu par Whilce Portacio. Il s’agit d’un crayonné de l’artiste pour la série Spawn.


-> Spawn: the Book of the Dead voit sa date de sortie repoussée. Une habitude chez TMP, on commence à être moins surpris, donc, même si ça fait toujours râler. Heureusement, c’est juste d’un mois. Le livre sortira donc en décembre. En fait, il sera a priori prêt à la toute fin novembre, d’après l’imprimeur. Ce qui veut dire qu’il ne pourra être mis en vente qu’après, à savoir en décembre. Voilà pourquoi il n’était pas annoncé dans les sollicitations Image de novembre.
Cerise sur le gâteau pour mettre encore plus les nerfs, il faut savoir que Spawn: the Book of the Dead aura un tirage limité à… 3500 exemplaires ! A noter aussi que la Bundled Edition, qui incluera une figurine Pewter Raven Spawn, sera limitée à 3000 exemplaires. Sur les 3500 au total ? C’est ce que j’ai peur de comprendre, mais à vérifier. Chacun sera signé de la main de Todd McFarlane, comme prévu. Quelque chose me dit que ça va être coton pour mettre la main sur un exemplaire, mon pauvre Duke…

-> Spawn en Iraq ! Enfin… TMP a envoyé de quoi passer le temps aux troupes américaines qui se trouvent en Iraq. Et Todd McFarlane a reçu une médaille d’honneur de la part de l’armée américaine.

Spawn #182 est sorti mercredi.
J’ai malencontreusement lu quelques mots de forumeurs de spawn.com. C’est ainsi que j’ai appris que c’est dans cet épisode que l’on saura ce qu’est le personnage encapé mystérieux, 'savez, Morana. Ces petits futés d’Américains ont spoilé sans retenu. Je suis dégoûté puisque je n’aurai pas la surprise. Par contre je suis tout excité, car quand vous, vous saurez… c’est une surprise tout simplement gé-ni-a-le et é-nor-me ! David Hine est la meilleure chose qui soit arrivée à la série : je l’ai déjà dit 36 fois, et une 37ième fois ça ne fait pas de mal !
Je sais même ce qu’est, enfin l’appellation, de la nana que l’on voit sur les dernières couv’ du run de Hine & Haberlin. Bon, ce n’est pas aussi énorme. Peut-être que ce qui le sera, c’est savoir qui elle est.

Brian Haberlin a révélé 12 planches originales de cet épisode, en vis-à-vis avec les mises en page de Greg Capullo. Vous l’aurez compris, attention, car c’est spoiler ! Ne vous pétez pas les yeux, cliquez pour voir en grand :

Three wide-screen panels, zooming on Nyx as the costume takes possession of her.

Panel 1
A tilted-angle of Nyx showing all or most of her body as the costume wraps itself around her, slithering over her body. When the symbiote takes on a new host, it covers the body and penetrates into the flesh at the same time, absorbing itself into the physical body and invading the mind and thoughts of its host.

Nyx has taken on the costume once before in issues 139–141 – the issues drawn by Nat Jones. I’m referencing this in the dialogue, but this is a completely different experience and the costume should be totally different too, this time, retaining Nyx’s hair and incorporating the red cape.

Nyx is fighting against the invasion of her body, her face showing the agony of the process.

We will hear the voices of both the symbiote and Nyx as the possession progresses.

1) Costume: I MISSED YOU, NYX. THE TOUCH OF YOUR SKIN...THE TASTE OF YOU…

Brian, this is deliberate mis-direction – at this point it looks like Nyx is going to be the next Spawn and you should take the opportunity to create a cool-looking Nyx-Spawn (full panel next page). In fact she is only the temporary host because of course Cloak/Morana is being set up to be the true host for the symbiote.

6) Caption: SHE FEELS THE COSTUME , NOT ONLY IN HER FLESH, BUT COILING LIKE A SNAKE THROUGH HER MIND. HOW COULD ANYONE LIVE WITH THIS WITHOUT GOING MAD?

Panel 1:
Nyx has completely transformed into Nyx/Symbiote with full cape and costume. Her eyes glow blue where the Spawn we knew had green eyes. She is not a true Hellspawn, because hers is a human body, unlike the necroplasmic body that Al was given.

Nyx/Symbiote is on one knee at the water’s edge. She has thrust one hand like a claw, into the earth on the shoreline in a desperate attempt to gain strength and aid from Gaia, the Earth goddess. But the Earth is repelled by her. The ground cracks and grows black around her, a network of black filaments, spreading out from the point of contact with her glowing hand. The water behind her is disturbed, as if by an earthquake, the still surface now broken by swells and jets of water, erupting from the surface. The mist swirls away from her in arabesques – it is as if all nature is repelled by what Nyx is becoming.

1) Caption: THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE. THE COSTUME HAS TRANSFORMED HER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SHE HAS BONDED WITH SPAWN’S COSTUME BUT THIS TIME THE SYMBIOTE CARRIES THE POISON OF THE VRYKOLAKAS.

Nyx/Symbiote reaches out towards Al as Nyx struggles to retain control. The ground around her is cracked and blackened, the dark shadows snaking out around her, just stopping short of where Al is kneeling.

The pupils will disappear completely into the glow when the symbiote is dominant.

The symbiote known as Leetha of the 7th house of K is rising up out of one of these pits, dripping viscous black – a terrifying sight, but Mammon is unperturbed, leaning on his cane and smiling as he does the deal with Leetha.

Nyx/Symbiote is face to face with Mammon. The Vrykolakas are still flanking them on either side. The symbiote bares her teeth, fists clenched, still suspicious of Mammon.

Panel 2
Nyx/Symbiote never takes her eyes off Mammon as she suddenly thrusts out one hand and clamps it over the face of one of the startled Vrykolakas. Mammon returns her gaze, never blinking.

2) Costume: I’VE KNOWN WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO HAVE THE POWER OF A GOD.

Al is wearing the jeans and is pulling on the T-shirt. Wanda, holding tight to Cyan, is looking to Al to get them out of this. Whatever else he may be, he is the one person she has always looked to in times of trouble. Cyan looks detached

Al: HIS NAME’S MAMMON AND FOR NOW WE DO WHATEVER HE TELLS US.

Pull back so the injured Vrykolakas is in the foreground, on his knees, moaning and tentatively prodding at his chargrilled features. Al, fully dressed in the nondescript clothes he will later wear into Hell, puts an arm around Wanda.

A spectacularly horrific scene. Morana stands in the middle of the stone-flagged floor, bare, bony arms raised, eyes blazing, looking around at the dozens of living humans hanging suspended upside-down from the ceiling. Male and female from every corner of the world – black, white, Asian, Hispanic. They are wearing enough clothes to spare our blushes – white underwear – shorts for the males and bra and panties for the females. They are all fairly young – all of them virgins, as we’ll soon learn. It is virgin blood that will transform Morana and all these youngsters are drawn from the Church of the White Light, who have pledged to save themselves for their future spouses.

One other thing they all have in common. Their gaping, groaning mouths are dark with blood, because Morana has torn out their tongues with her teeth.

They are freshly scrubbed and glowing with health and purity – a terrible contrast to the image above in Panel 1.

Brian, with this page I want to get the effect of the mass slaughter. Morana slashing over and over again with the blade as the blood spurts. I think it would be cool to do away with the cinematic layout and do one of those Steranko/Capullo/McFarlane style pages – very graphic designed – small panels, wide panels and maybe the final image with no panel borders at all. I’ve described a series of images but you can break them down how you want and add more if you need.

A victim seen from the front. Head shot (the head upside-down as the victim is hanging upside down). His mouth is open in a silent scream. They have stopped a little way before the bridge, looking across at the castle. Wanda is beside Al, his arm no longer around her. She still holds Cyan’s hand.

Nyx/Symbiote is gazing silently across the bridge.

I talked about Morana transforming into a beautiful woman for this last panel, but I’ve decided to keep the transformation for next issue.

This should be a stunning image however: Morana has thrown off her cloak and is kneeling on the floor under the deluge of blood that pours down from the slaughtered virgins. The cloak is lying in a heap around her. Her head is thrown back, eyes closed and mouth open, her arms at her sides, spread slightly as if she were bathing beneath a waterfall. She is almost orgasmic as she revels in the cascade of hot blood.

We see the contours of her clearly female body but there is so much blood that it is covers the details. Her entire body face and hair are drenched. The blood is still raining down, splashing off the stone floor. A pool of blood spreads out across the ground around her.

Je suis désolé, brimstone.
Pourtant, tu ne peux pas dire que je n'avais pas averti - c'est en gros, c'est en rouge, et je l'ai répété à chaque message. Aussi, j'avais mis le script en très petit. Mais c'est vrai qu'en ouvrant bien les yeux et en s'approchant de l'écran, c'était lisible. Mea culpa pour ce dernier point. C'est pour cela que, vu ta réaction, j'ai édité mes quatre derniers posts en diminuant encore plus la taille. Là, maintenant, si vous arriver à lire, c'est que vous avez une vision de super-héros !

Bref, toutes mes excuses brimstone, je pensais tout de même avoir plris suffisamment de précautions. Alors pour te rétablir, je rappelle que cette semaine il y a eu une tartine de news, que tu peux lire ou relire à la page précédente du topic.

Les artistes en herbe ont jusqu’à vendredi prochain pour envoyer leurs créations, et ainsi participer au concours pour gagner l’un de ces deux dessins originaux de Whilce Portacio. Le premier de ces deux prix est néanmoins remplacé par un tout nouveau dessin de l’artiste - voir ci-dessous. Pourquoi ? Parce que le premier dessin a tellement plu à Todd McFarlane, qu’il sera utilisé pour une couverture d’un épisode de Spawn !

She-Spawn par Nat Jones (dessin et encrage) & Jay Fotos (couleur) : ça vous dit bien sûr quelque chose, puisque les épisodes ont été traduits dans les premiers numéros des Chroniques de Spawn, mais il n’empêche que l’illustration qui suit, ça ne fait pas de mal, remember… Juste pour le plaisir !

Vous vous souvenez du projet de film Torso, adapté du bouquin de B.M. Bendis & Marc Andreyko, qui serait produit entre autre par Todd McFarlane et réalisé par le grand David Fincher – bien que celui-ci aie plein d’autres projets en vue. Eh bien il paraîtrait que Matt Damon serait près pour interpréter le rôle principal, à savoir Elliot Ness !

Aucun problème ^^ C'est bien ma faute! Je me suis dit qu'en ne lisant QUE la dernière phrase ça ne révélerait rien, bah je me suis planté.

Mais il ne faut jamais lire les dernières pages ou derniers dialogues des comics, mon p'tit brimstone : c'est là où se trouvent les clffhangers, qui font écarquiller les yeux des lecteurs de surprise, afin de les rendre impatients jusqu'à la sortie de l'épisode suivant !

Spawn: the Book of the Dead, que j’attends avec une impatience aussi grande qu’à l’époque de the Art of Greg Capullo (qui est sorti quasiment un an en retard, imaginez mon humeur), je crois que je l’ai déjà évoqué, aura deux éditions : la simple, c’est-à-dire le livre seul, et le livre + la figurine. Ce sera du hardcover, certainement grand format, tirage limité à 3500 exemplaires, tous signés par Todd McFarlane, sortie quelque part en décembre prochain. On sait que le bouquin coûtera 29.99 $, eh bien voici le prix de la version bouquin + figurine… 32.99 $ !!! 3 $ seulement de plus avec la figurine ? S’il ne s’agit pas d’une faute de frappe, c’est renversant !

Spawn: the Book of the Dead, toujours. Le bouquin traitera des différents hellspawns à travers les âges, mais il y a tellement de personnages, que les plus récents ne seront pas dans ce bouquin… mais dans un second volume, prévu pour l’année prochaine !

Rappelez-vous, on l’a déjà évoqué sur ce forum… Mais pour les petits nouveaux, voilà le topo…
A une période, Todd McFarlane avait racheté les droits du personnage MiracleMan, un vieux super-héros popularisé par Alan Moore Mais cela n’a pas pu se faire, car pendant longtemps il a du faire face à un procès, qu’il avait avec… Neil Gaiman ! Eh oui, non seulement ce dernier proclamait être créateur d’Angela dans la série Spawn, mais aussi avoir les droits de MiracleMan. Du coup, même s’il en avait grave envie et l’avait annoncé, McFarlane ne pouvait finalement pas utiliser MiracleMan. Finalement, le concept est quelque peu resté le temps de quelques épisodes, je veux parler de son récit pour le Image 10th Anniversary Hardcover, et les premiers épisodes de Spawn par David Hine – un impératif de McFarlane. Eh oui, vous l’aurez maintenant compris : L’Homme aux Miracles vient de là !
M’enfin, revenons à nos moutons, puisque ce dont je veux vous parler, c’est que la présence de MiracleMan avait été annoncée dans un épisode de HellSpawn. La première image ci-dessous, c’est une illustration commune de Todd McFarlane & Ashley Wood, le dessinateur du spin-off HellSpawn à l’époque. D’après ce que je comprends en regardant l’image, le premier a dessiné et le second a encré. La seconde image, déjà vue sur le forum, c’est ce qui devait être la couv’ de cet épisode de HellSpawn par Wood.



Où en est Whilce Portacio dans la confection de ses épisodes de Spawn ?
Déjà, un petit mot sur l’objectif de Todd et lui : mettre à plat une histoire qui peut attirer le plus de monde possible, tout en gardant l’aspect sombre du titre. Les auteurs ont déjà planifié les évènements sur plus d’un an.
De son propre aveu, sauf chamboulements de toutes sortes, son rythme de production est de une planche par jour, plus précisément une planche en six heures. Ce qui peut le ralentir à certains moments, c’est quand il tombe malade comme la semaine dernière par exemple, et le travail à côté concernant la promotion et les détails de production.
A ce jour, il est en pleine réalisation du #187.
Et deux petits scoops en passant : on savait que le Clown aka Violator serait de la partie, sachez qu’il y aura aussi ses frères, et que Sam & Twitch seront également dans cette nouvelle mouture !

c'est une drôle d'idée non? ça me paraît vraiment peu, j'imaginais plutôt que ça avait le potentiel d'attirer des lecteurs qui avaient aimé puis abandonné la ongoing. Je dois pas être bon en marketing... mais si ça marche il y aura sans doute un reprint. Je me demande comment Delcourt va nous traduire tout ça!!!

C'est vrai que le MoM (HaM en vf) faisait carrément rattrapage fade du fiasco de MM, surtout dans le HC des 10 ans d'Image, mais Hine s'en plutôt bien tiré malgré tout. Là aussi chapeau le scribe parce que réhabiliter un personnage aussi mal parti (tout en éclaircissant le concept du Monde Vert) c'était pas fait. Qu'est-ce qu'il aura fait du bien à la série tout de même!! (Hine, pas HaM)

Ca me fait penser à 1 itw ou Holguin expliquait que le team allait se concenter sur le Spawnverse tel que tout le monde le conçoit et non plus seulement sur Spawn qui croise les autres persos les uns après les autres. je croyais que c'était dans CB mais non j'ai vérifié. Enfin du coup comme je peux pas remettre la main dessus je précise c'était vaguement qq ch dans cet esprit qu'il disait
